Biodiversity Net Gain in Tandridge LPA Local Planning Authority

Tandridge, situated in Surrey, is a district authority characterised by a predominantly rural landscape interspersed with small towns and villages. Covering around 135 square kilometres, it includes settlements such as Oxted and Caterham, alongside significant woodlands, chalk grasslands, and river valleys.

Aligned with the Environment Act 2021, Tandridge District Council requires most development projects to achieve a minimum of 10% Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG). This can be delivered through on-site habitat creation or enhancement, off-site biodiversity units, or contributions to local ecological networks.

The LPA spans parts of the North Downs and High Weald National Character Areas, supporting priority habitats such as ancient woodland, chalk grassland, lowland meadows, and rivers.

Tandridge’s mixture of rural, semi-rural, and developed areas presents opportunities for BNG through woodland management, chalk grassland restoration, river corridor enhancement, and hedgerow planting.

For developers, landowners, and planning professionals working in Tandridge, understanding the area’s habitats, planning policies, and biodiversity priorities is vital. Our team provides BNG assessments, habitat surveys, and ecological consultancy services.
