About
Somerset BNG Scheme

Trinity Farm Nature Reserve and Eastcombe Fields Nature Area are located just outside of Wellington in Somerset LPA. They have been developed by KS Coles, a family farm focused on environmentally sound farming. The BNG scheme covers 27 hectares and provides a rich mix of grassland, woodland, scrub, hedgerows, lakes and watercourses.

The family are planning to designate the Trinity site as a Nature Reserve to ensure it stands as a legacy and serves the community in Wellington for generations to come.

Trinity both completes the Wellington Green Corridor and will create a permanent ‘green wedge’, bringing nature into the heart of Wellington. This presents significant opportunities for named developers to sponsor the area, linking environmental responsibility directly to visible, place-based investment in Somerset’s natural future.

Together, Trinity and Eastcombe offer a high-integrity, landscape-scale Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) solution. Backed by long-term conservation covenants with Somerset Council, the two sites are designed to support a range of priority species and ecosystems. Beyond meeting statutory BNG requirements, these schemes represent a shift toward holistic, community-minded land stewardship.

KS Coles has taken a long-term view, with detailed management and monitoring plans that ensure habitats not only meet biodiversity targets but flourish over time. The scheme has been created with sensitivity to local ecological networks, including corridors for protected species, water catchment improvement, and ecological connectivity between habitats.

The vision for Trinity Farm Nature Reserve is not just to create biodiversity units, but to deliver a public good, a living, breathing space for nature, backed by family values, ecological rigour, and a genuine commitment to community legacy.

With units available and a transparent, locally-led governance model, Trinity and Eastcombe provide a unique opportunity for developers to meet BNG obligations in a way that delivers long-term, tangible environmental impact—while becoming part of something with enduring social and ecological value.

Nutrient mitigation from these schemes can be used by developments in the River Tone catchment.

BNG units can be used without a spatial risk multiplier in the Somerset LPA area and the Vale of Taunton and Quantock Fringes National Character area.
