In the last quarter of 2025, the launch of our online marketplace for biodiversity units and nutrient credits was picked up across the national business and sustainability trade press. Closer to home, two Somerset habitat banks drew local coverage as work got under way.

A UK First: Buying Biodiversity Units Online

In December Greenshank launched an online marketplace where developers can buy biodiversity net gain units and nutrient credits directly. Business Green described it as a UK first, and the story was carried by trade titles covering construction, sustainability and smart cities.

Trinity Farm, Wellington: A New Nature Reserve for the Town

Work began on Trinity Farm Nature Reserve, just outside Wellington in Somerset, developed by the Coles family farming business, KS Coles. With the neighbouring Eastcombe Fields, it forms the Somerset BNG Scheme: grassland, woodland, scrub, hedgerows, lakes and watercourses that complete the Wellington Green Corridor and bring nature into the edge of the town. The same sites supply nutrient mitigation for the River Tone catchment. Five local titles covered the start of work.

The Wrangle: A Habitat Bank for Horseshoe Bats

The Wrangle Habitat Bank sits on a hill above Compton Martin, looking out over Blagdon Lake and Chew Valley Lake. Run by two families, one of which has been on the land for more than 100 years, it restores grassland, orchard, hedgerow and woodland, grazed by Belted Galloway cattle. Part of the site is a hibernation roost for greater and lesser horseshoe bats, and the management plan is built around them. It is the Bath and North East Somerset BNG Scheme, brought to market with Ethos Environmental Planning.
